The Andorran driver closes the Toyota GR Cup Spain 2026 with an indisputable triumph in the first race of the final event, while Joan Vinyes Jr. finishes the season in ninth place in the overall standings.
Joan Vinyes concluded the 2026 season of the Toyota GR Cup Spain with a remarkable performance at the Madrid circuit of Jarama. The Andorran driver secured a resounding victory in the first race of the weekend, a result that allowed him to clinch the championship runner-up position. Moreover, he once again demonstrated his competitiveness in the second race, finishing in fifth place after a race impacted by additional weight and tire issues.
The final event of the championship was held in a single day, with two timed practice sessions in the morning and two races scheduled for the afternoon. A demanding schedule in which Vinyes took advantage of his pace to become one of the main protagonists of the day.
Meanwhile, Joan Vinyes Jr. finished the season in ninth place in the overall standings, with 92 points. His absence due to injury at MotorLand affected his championship chances. The Vinyes Dabad team thus concludes the circuit season with a positive balance, holding the absolute runner-up position and the victory in the senior category, with support from Toyota Motors Andorra and Andbank.

With one race left, last weekend Joan Vinyes Dabad mathematically secured the title in the senior category after finishing second on the podium at the Los Arcos circuit (Navarra). This second place also consolidates his position as the overall second-placed driver in the championship, ahead of the…

Dominance in practice and decisive victory
Joan Vinyes started the day with authority. The Andorran driver set the best time in both timed practice sessions, a demonstration of pace that allowed him to secure the pole position for both races.
Joan Vinyes Jr. also stood out in the first session, achieving the sixth-best time. However, a problem with the tread of one of the tires prevented him from completing a second session at the level he had shown until then, which compromised his starting position for the second race.
The first race had a clear protagonist: Joan Vinyes. Starting from pole position, he controlled the race from start to finish and crossed the finish line in first place. His dominance was also reflected in the fastest lap of the race, a statistic that confirms the strength of his performance.
This victory held special significance, as it mathematically secured him the runner-up position in the Toyota GR Cup Spain 2026. Vinyes thus delivered a decisive performance at a key moment of the season.
Joan Vinyes Jr., meanwhile, raced for a large part of the event in the leading group, even occupying the fifth position at one point. A slight contact with another competitor and tire issues that emerged during the race ultimately limited his options. He finished the race in eighth position, a result far from the potential he had shown at the beginning.
Tires affect the second race
The second race, held with increasingly limited light, presented a different scenario. Joan Vinyes once again made a good start and maintained the lead during the first third of the race. However, a slight advance resulted in a five-second penalty that would ultimately affect his final result.
This circumstance was compounded by a critical factor: the 60 kilograms of additional weight he had to carry following his victory in the first race. As the laps progressed, this burden intensified tire degradation and made it challenging for the Andorran driver to maintain the same pace.
The situation became even more complicated in the closing laps, when one of his tires was almost worn out. Despite the difficulties, Vinyes managed to cross the finish line in fourth place. However, the five-second penalty pushed him back to fifth in the final classification of the race.
Joan Vinyes Jr. made a commendable recovery. Despite starting from the back of the grid due to issues in practice, he gained positions throughout the race to finish eighth. A result that allowed him to close the day with a new presence among the top ten.
A runner-up position that confirms competitiveness
The final standings of the Toyota GR Cup Spain 2026 crowned Marco Aguilera, with 219 points. Joan Vinyes finished second, with 204, just one point ahead of Marcos de Diego, who secured third with 203.
The conclusion at Jarama confirms the strength of the Andorran driver’s season, capable of resolving one of the most important events on the calendar with a victory and securing the runner-up position in a demanding and competitive championship.
Joan Vinyes Jr. concluded the championship in ninth place, with 92 points, after a season where his absence due to injury at MotorLand had a significant impact on the final result.
With the absolute runner-up position and the victory in the senior category, the Vinyes Dabad team wraps up the 2026 circuit season with an outstanding balance, validated by the performance throughout the championship and by Joan Vinyes' ability to turn the final event into a demonstration of competitiveness.
