Gerard de la Casa delivered a high-level performance this weekend at the 21st Pujada a la Trona, winning the Touring Car category and becoming the new provisional leader of the Catalan Hill Climb Championship.
Behind the wheel of the Ford Fiesta prepared by Baporo Motorsport, the Andorran driver once again demonstrated his experience and consistency in one of the most demanding events of the Catalan championship.
The Pujada a la Trona, with nearly six kilometers of track and a very challenging elevation gain, is considered one of the most technical races on the calendar, especially due to the difficulty of maintaining a constant pace across all sections of the course.
With a total of 83 registered teams and particularly strong competition among the most modern touring cars, De la Casa built his victory on precision. After completing the official practice sessions, the driver “nailed” both race climbs, which were separated by just six tenths of a second. This data reflects both the driver's confidence at the controls of the Ford Fiesta and the robustness and reliability of the car prepared by Baporo Motorsport.

However, the victory in Touring Cars was not the only highlight of the driver's weekend. De la Casa also went head-to-head with several much lighter and more specific racing prototypes for this discipline. In fact, he even surpassed some, finishing in a meritorious third position overall, a result that confirms the Andorran's competitiveness in any scenario. The veteran driver from the Principality repeated the overall podium he achieved last season in the same event.
This special relationship between the driver and the Pujada a la Trona is not new. The truth is that De la Casa continues to expand an especially remarkable track record in this event, a race where he already achieved overall victory in 1999, in a very different era of the championship, but which already hinted at his potential in hill climb races.
As with Joan Vinyes, there's no room for relaxation, as this coming weekend sees the Pujada Arinsal, the first event of the Andorran Automobile Hill Climb Championship, and De la Casa will also be on the starting line.
