The Vinyes Dabad Team had a very positive weekend at the Jerez circuit, which marked a new event of the Toyota GR Cup Spain. Joan Vinyes returned to the podium, thereby reinforcing his leadership, while Joan Vinyes Jr., after missing the previous race due to injury, made a notable comeback with a fifth place in the first race.
The weekend (September 26 and 27) allowed us to see both Toyota GR86s from the Andorran team on track once again.
After the free practice sessions on Friday, the competitiveness between the participants became evident in a very close qualifying session.
Saturday, Vinyes 4th and Vinyes Jr. 5th
In the first qualifying session, Joan Vinyes achieved the fifth-best time, while Vinyes Jr. positioned himself eleventh. However, both improved their standings in the race.

As the race began, Joan Vinyes made a good start, gaining two places in the first lap. The driver remained in the leading positions until, midway through the race, the tire wear caused by the additional 50 kg of weight began to affect his pace. In fact, being forced to adopt a more conservative driving style, Vinyes ended up conceding a position to Antonio Albacete, thus crossing the finish line in fourth place.
The most notable comeback, however, came from his son, Joan Vinyes Jr. The young driver, who started from eleventh position, progressively advanced several rivals, reaching the last laps with options to continue gaining ground. In fact, on the last lap, he gained two more positions, placing him sixth, where he crossed the checkered flag.
In the end, a penalty to the driver ahead of him allowed the Andorran to move up a spot, finishing from sixth to fifth place.
Sunday, another podium for Joan Vinyes
The second day began with another closely matched qualifying session in which Joan Vinyes secured the sixth starting position and Vinyes Jr. the tenth.
The race had to repeat the start after a problem with the traffic light forced the cancellation of the first. In the second start, Vinyes made a strong launch again, quickly gaining a position just in the first corners. From that moment, the driver from the Principality positioned himself behind Marcos Aguilera, one of the strong contenders in the championship.
As the laps progressed, Vinyes closed in on Aguilera until he began applying pressure in the final part of the race. Eventually, the pressure paid off, and with just a few laps to go, Vinyes overtook him, securing the third position in which he would cross the finish line.
With this new podium, the veteran driver of the Vinyes Dabad Team has accumulated an important package of points, allowing him to maintain his lead in the Toyota GR Cup Spain standings.

Vinyes Jr. without options on Sunday
For his part, Vinyes Jr. had to work hard to overtake a rival who considerably complicated his progression in the second race. So much so that when he finally managed to pass him, the leading group was already too far ahead.
The Toyota GR Cup Spain now faces the final stretch of the championship. Navarra and Jarama will be the last two scenarios of the season.
